How to play the dice game: a beginner's guide

Never played this 5-dice game before? Here's how a round unfolds, from the first roll to the final score, in 6 simple steps.

  1. 1

    Prepare your scoresheet

Each player needs a scoresheet with 13 categories: 6 in the upper section (Ones through Sixes) and 7 in the lower section (Three of a Kind, Four of a Kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight, Five of a Kind, Chance). Online, the sheet fills itself in on screen.

  2. 2

    Roll the 5 dice

On your turn, roll all 5 dice. Look at the result: a pair, three of a kind, or the start of a straight are usually worth keeping for the next roll.

  3. 3

Keep useful dice and reroll the rest

Tap the dice you want to keep (they're set aside), then reroll the others. You get up to 3 rolls per turn, keeping whatever you like between each roll.

  4. 4

Choose a category to fill in

Once you're happy with your result (or after the 3rd roll), pick a category that's still empty on your scoresheet. The game calculates your points automatically from your dice. If nothing fits, choose the category you're willing to sacrifice with a score of 0.

  5. 5

    Repeat for 13 turns

Each turn fills in a different category. The game ends once all 13 categories are filled, whether you're playing solo or with others.

  6. 6

Add up the bonus and final score

If your upper section total reaches 63 points, you automatically earn a 35-point bonus. Every Five of a Kind after the first is worth 100 more points. The final score adds it all up.
